September 29-Surgery Day
Steve worked from home this morning. We needed to arrive at the surgery center at noon, which we did. It wasn't long before they had me in a little room and started going through all of the questions and hooking me up to an IV. They had to take a typing blood sample again just to make sure there was no mistake, incase I needed a transfusion. Steve was allowed in once I was all hooked up and all blood was drawn. We waited a LONG time. The anesthesiologist came in and discussed what would happen. I was going to be getting Propofal (the Michael Jackson drug). We also had the nausea discussion again and he ordered a pill for me and an ear patch that would last 2 days. I was determined not to let my stomach get the best of me. The Dr. came in around 2:30 and said we would be starting soon. Since it was around 3:00 I think we got stuck waiting for shift change. Not sure exactly when I was wheeled away. I remember going down the hall and arriving to the surgery room. It seemed like there was alot of stuff in there like a storage room and it was very noisy. Seemed like there was quite a few people being very busy. That's it for me. Next thing I remember was Steve, Ross and Valerie standing beside my bed telling me that it was malignant and they had to do the biopsies. Steve was upset. I heard what he said but I remember still not thinking the worst at this point. I'm sure it had much to do with the drugged state I was in. I don't remember going to my room but I do remember Steve being there and deciding to spend the night with me. I was really grateful, I didn't want to be there by myself and he didn't want to go home by himself. Nurses came in all night checking my temperature and blood pressure. Steve got up at 7:00 ish and went home to take a shower. I had a lovely breakfast of beef broth, jello, italian ice, coffee. The salty stuff tasted super salty to me and sweet stuff tasted super sweet. YUK> I must say the hospital was really nice. All of the nurses were very friendly and super helpful. Everyone on the floor had private rooms. I was in the corner so I had 3 big window that looked out at the tree tops so it was very nice. I really had no complaints about the hospital.
